Planning ahead for 2025: The North Somerset Show will be held on Monday 5th May 2025. The North Somerset Vintage Tractor Club will again be exhibiting a large number of members' tractors and a selection of implements. Entries accepted from paid-up members of the club will be accepted. Road Run Sunday 20th October. Location: Start at Steve Mitchell's Farm East Dundry BS41 8NH. 
8:30am get together for 9:30am start for an on and off road run - weather dependent for the off road parts. Do bring a flask of tea because tea stop is hopefully in a field with lunch at 12 30am at the Chew Animal Park (roast dinner £16 or chip option at a lesser price - order at start) or bring your own lunch to be eaten by your tractor. Then an afternoon drive back to base taking in Dundry and Chew Lake area.  Please note: normal size vintage and classic tractors are OK but no large or modern tractors due to access to areas of the route.  Entry form to hand in on the day here

ANNUAL CLUB VINTAGE PLOUGHING MATCH
To be held on Saturday 14th September 2024
Venue: Courtesy Mr M Tibbs, Halfway Farm, Stanton Drew, Bristol BS39 4ET.  All entry forms are to be sent to J Robbins - either by email and post. North Somerset Show: All tractor exhibits must enter by the Station Road entrance and not through the public entrance at the bottom of Belmont Hill. Please be on-site well before 8:30am as no movement is permitted after that time. Also be aware that we are not permitted to leave the site until 5:30pm.

Please note that due to a clash with another ploughing event* on the original date the club's ploughing match has been brought forward to Saturday 14th of September. The club ploughing practice will remain on the Friday 13th September. Location BS40 8RU near Chew Magna, Bristol.  *The other ploughing event is Cheriton Fitzpaine & District Ploughing Association Devon which includes a National Vintage Area Final.

NVTEC North Somerset Ploughing Match 2022. A great turnout and wonderful weather. The event had 43 competitors plus support from club members' classic tractors and other vehicles. We were also visited by some Model T Fords on a day trip. The general public showed up in sizeable numbers with plenty of questions about what ploughing matches are all about! It is with great sadness that I have to report that Colin Patch passed away on Monday the 27th of December 2021.  Colin was a long-standing club member and, in later years, a committee member.  Colin had undergone heart surgery in London over the last month and was looking forward to re-joining his family back in Stanton Drew .

Colin will always be remembered for his happy smiley outlook on life, his trilby hat, green overhauls and Massey Ferguson Digger Racing around the Chew Valley!!  The North Somerset Tractor Club has lost a truly great member and will be sorely missed by all members that had the pleasure of his company.

Our condolences go out to Ruth and her family in these very difficult times.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Ted Beames passed away peacefully on Sunday 7th of November after short illness

Ted would often be seen on tractor runs and at shows with his wife Carol and their dog.  Unfortunately after Carol passed away earlier this year Ted's health deteriorated quite rapidly.  He would always be about to help at shows and autojumble on gate helping us raise money.  I first met Ted many years ago at a tractor run and became great friends.  He gave me a lot of help along way sorting my tractor out. He unfortunately sold the Fergy earlier this year when health was against him.  He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him.                          From Richard Elliott-Turner

Ted's funeral will be on Friday 26th November at 11:30am at Weston Crematorium.

A great event for enthusiasts of vintage and classic tractors. This year there will be about 200 tractors on display ranging from early models, built from about 1920 up to the latest models we see farmers use today. There will be trade stands, with 1000’s of tractor spares, books and model tractors and toys etc. for sale.

Road Run Saturday 21st August 2021. Meet at Winchester Farm Draycott Road, Cheddar BS27 3RP. Signing in from 9:30 with run starting at 10:30. Refreshments available from 9:00am. Geoff Ashman: The club has recently heard that Geoff passed away recently. From Kevin our chairman: "Geoff was a lovely man and I have many fond memories and moments with Geoff with most of them taking the mickey. The back row of seats at the club meetings will not be the same without Geoff." Our condolences to Geoff's family. Update: Geoff Ashman’s Funeral will be on the 9^th of February 12pm at Bristol South Crematorium.  There will be a drive through Nailsea High Street  from his flat on the way to Bristol. Please observe the current regulations for funerals.

THE SHOW GROUND IS DEEMED TO BE A PUBLIC PLACE AND ALL VEHICLES MUST BE COVERED BY INSURANCE AND TAXED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT
All exhibits must be in position before 8.30 am on Show day and must not be loaded on to transport or removed from the showground before 5-30pm and then only if the show organisers have allowed movement. Movement of vehicles IS NOT permitted within the showground between these times without authorisation from the show management. Note the Show organisers may extend the NO MOVEMENT TIME if an unforeseen circumstance occurs.
Please ensure that your vehicle is disabled whilst on display to ensure that no-one can move your vehicle other than yourself.
Moving an exhibit into the show ring requires the exhibit to be insured, registered with the DVLA and have public liability insurance.

NO MEETING AT REDHILL THIS MONTH.

Be ready to board the coach to the museum at 7:00 am on Tuesday 3rd July at Redhill Social Club.  Breakfast stop at at Palmers Garden Centre, Yeovil at 9:00am.  Arrival at the museum around Tank Mueum should be in the region of 11am.  Depart time from the museum: 5:00pm with dinner stop at 6:30 at the Cross Keys.  The Cross Keys is a real ale country pub in the heart of Somerset, situated at the crossroads of the A37 and A3153 in the village of Lydford-on- Fosse, between the small market towns of Castle Cary and Somerton.  Arrival at Redhill will be about 10:30pm.

Usual time and there should be refreshments - no alcohol license though!  Last chance to settle up for the Bovington Tank Museum trip and chose your dinner from the menu - otherwise you will get what you are given!  Tick box slips from John Porter at the meeting.

The annual ploughing match will take place on the usual date in September ( 14th for the practice and 16th for the match).

The Victorian model farm in south Gloucestershire and north Somerset
From 1850 to 1880, British agriculturists responded to the repeal of the Corn Laws by enlisting the modern advances in chemistry and industrial organisation and steam power.  Prince Albert may have led the way, but several in the Avon region were also setting an example. The new approach had little time to settle before British agriculture was hit by imports steamed in across the oceans, but it left its mark, as much perhaps as had the enclosures of an earlier age. Here William Evans tells how the story played out in these parts.

That service was to become the RNLI. And since our foundation in 1824, our brave lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 140,000 lives.

Today we celebrate our long and proud lifesaving history through our archive and library, collections, exhibitions and museums, all of which keep our inspiring stories of courage alive."

Excellent weather made this a grand day out for the coach party. Despite making good time on the outward trip, the farm shop at  White Row Farm near Beckington did a great job with the full English breakfast - a bit too full for some! The museum and house proved to be well worth the visit despite a hunt for ice creams for a few members of the party. This was later rectified with double helpings. The dinner stop was equally well serviced and enjoyed by all with a few dozing off the meal on the way back (The Three Horseshoes at Chapmanslade).

Some of the younger members of the party had to try out the photo opportunity (left). Mr Williams wearing a suitable soft crash helmet in a pre war Grand Prix car.  He was also seen climbing on the Fordson N in the under 7's play area - with supervision.
